v2.1.0
- Empty hands: press Y, or the number key of the gun you're holding, to put it away. The gun leaves your hands for everyone and the server won't take shots until a weapon is out again. In first person your hands relax when you stand, swing as you walk and pump when you run, with every arms style.
- Other players now see R6 characters crouch (a kneel) and slide (leaning back, legs out), and the server lowers their hitboxes to match. R15 already bent at the knees.
- Clicks on your UI never fire the gun, and neither does the click that closes a menu. Hold Left Alt to free the cursor for a moment. A GuiButton with Modal on frees the mouse like it does in any Roblox game.
- Fixed clicking empty space in the settings menu closing it and firing the gun, and P sometimes closing the menu and opening it straight back up.
- Quick throw: two new keybinds, QuickLethal and QuickTactical, throw a grenade without switching to it, cook it while held and go back to your gun. Unbound by default.
- Fixed a second grenade being thrown after LoadCharacter while one was cooking.
- Fixed SetLoadout leaving players with nothing equipped on the server, which refused their shots until they switched weapons.
- The settings menu and loadout screen work better with a controller: the D-pad stays inside the menu and moves through tabs and rows in order.
- Fixed players with nothing in their hands not being able to sprint.
- Fixed XSF's hotbar and scope overlay staying on screen when a game removes the character without killing it.
- Sounds: when every copy of a sound is busy, the oldest one fades out instead of cutting off with a click (Audio.StealFade). New Audio.CutFade, Audio.Voices, Audio.ParentGroup (put XSF under your own master SoundGroup) and Audio.StepSets (your own footsteps per floor material). Per gun: Sounds.Fade, Sounds.Tail to turn off or scale XSF's echo for recordings that already have one, and lists of takes for FireSuppressed and FireThird.
- New GameConfig options: Movement.SprintReload, Throwables (arc, gravity, bounce, roll and more, for all grenades or one), Holster, Customization.Required (slots players can't leave empty), Customization.Access = "Off", SettingsSave (save player settings on the XSF site, only in your game, or not at all) and UseWebsite = false. New keybinds: Holster, Pickup, QuickLethal, QuickTactical and FreeCursor.
- The GameConfig that ships now has GiveLoadout, Vault, Pickups, Ragdoll, Damage.Modify and Debug.LogRejects written in.
- Server API: GetInventory, GetAmmo, GetAttachments, SetCustomizeCheck (refuse loadout changes, for example mid round), from and weapon options on Damage, and Equipped, Holstered and Reloaded events.
- Client API: IsDown, GetMovementState, OnMovement, AddSpeedModifier, SetMenuOpen, IsMenuOpen, IsCursorFree, SetHUDVisible, GetKit, SetKit, GetAttachmentOptions, GetAttachmentStats, GetAttachmentInfo, GetSoundGroups, SetGunshotHandler, IsReady, OnReady, GetAllSettings, EncodeAttachments and DecodeAttachments, plus signals for input, menus, equip, holster, reloads, new arms and other players' shots.
- Updating from 2.0: note what you changed in GameConfig and weapon Configs, delete the old XSF folders, install 2.1 and put your changes back. Nothing you set up changes, but the number key of the gun in your hands now puts it away and Left Alt frees the cursor. The docs have the full steps. 2.0 is no longer offered for download, games already running it keep working.
v2.0.0
- XSF 2.0 is out of beta. Thanks to everyone who tested it and sent bug reports.
- 39 new weapons, 59 in total: AK-12, AKS-74U, SCAR-H, G36C, AUG, FAMAS, TAR-21, Galil, FN FAL, M14, M249, PKM, MP7, UMP-45, P90, PP-19 Bizon, Uzi, MAC-10, Thompson, MP40, Kar98k, Mosin-Nagant, SVD, Barrett M82, M1014, SPAS-12, double barrel, AA-12, M1911, Beretta M9, CZ 75, Five-seveN, S&W 686, Bowie, Kukri, RPG-7, M320, C4 and claymore.
- Explosives: the RPG-7 rocket has a slow start, a motor that kicks in and a back blast. The M320 fires 40mm grenades on a real arc. C4 sticks to what it hits and goes off with right click. Claymores arm after 2 seconds and fire a fan at the first enemy in front. Blast damage respects cover.
- Pickups: drop your gun with X and pick one up with F. Dropped guns keep their attachments, skin and ammo. Spawn guns and ammo boxes from your own scripts with XSF.SpawnPickup.
- Zeroing on snipers and DMRs with ] and [, plus night vision and thermal scope attachments.
- Vault over low walls and climb onto ledges. The left hand plants on the edge and the camera dips with it.
- Unlocks and skins you control: grant, revoke and check attachments and skins per player, roll random skins for crates, and save it all yourself or let XSF do it.
- Real reloads for bolt actions (the bolt actually cycles), stripper clips on the Kar98k and Mosin, a swing out cylinder and speedloader on the 686, a break open M320 and a muzzle loaded RPG.
- Weapon self test: press F6 in a Studio playtest and every weapon is equipped, fired, aimed, reloaded and inspected, with a pass or fail line for each.
- Optional test map in the download: a house to clear, a range out to 150 studs, a vault course, penetration walls and an explosives yard.
- Fixed the echo after every shot and the broken sound indoors. Reverb now glides to the room you're in.
- Fixed bare glowing arms for players wearing layered clothing, and short guns that sat almost out of view at the hip.
- Fixed an error flashbangs threw for anyone caught in them.
- Updating from 1.3: back up anything you changed in GameConfig and weapon Configs, delete the old XSF folders, install 2.0 the same way as before and put your changes back. 1.3 is no longer offered for download, games already running it keep working.
v1.3.0
- New dashboard on the website: set XSF up without touching code. A one minute setup asks your game style, camera and arms, loadout and platforms, then every common setting and every weapon's damage, fire rate, ammo and recoil can be changed from the browser. Your games pick it up the next time a server starts.
- Presets: save named setups and give each game its own. Games without one use Default. Set Preset = "Name" in GameConfig to make a game always use a certain preset.
- Anything you change in Studio still wins. XSF knows what it ships with, so only the settings you actually edited in GameConfig or a weapon Config beat the website, and the dashboard shows which ones.
- Ten new weapons: AK-47, M4A1, AWM, Vector, Desert Eagle and Glock 17, plus four knives: Ka-Bar, M9 Bayonet, Karambit and Butterfly knife.
- Knives work like CS2: held in one hand with a draw, idle, inspect and left click slashes that alternate forehand and backhand. Stabbing someone from behind does four times the damage (Melee.Backstab sets the multiplier, false turns it off).
- Hotbar and backpack: the number keys hold up to 5 weapons and everything else waits in the backpack (B), where you can drag weapons onto the hotbar. Backpack.HotbarSize and Backpack.Hotbar in GameConfig change it.
- Every weapon has its own inspect (I).
- Teammates can drag a downed player to cover (H on keyboard, D-pad up on controller). Downed.Drag and Downed.DragSpeed in GameConfig control it.
- Hands hold every gun and knife much more realistically: fingers close around each grip, knives sit in a closed fist, and the support hand stays clear of the muzzle.
- Players without a shirt now have real looking bare arms instead of a fabric texture tinted skin colour.
- Attachments for pistols, and optional workbenches: set Customization.Access = "Workbench" and copy ReplicatedStorage.XSF.Assets.Workbench into your map.
- Fixed lasers and lights turning off after switching weapons.
- Fixed the Desert Eagle's sounds and animations.
- Fixed your own third person gun sometimes showing in first person, and the gun missing on your body after a game respawns you with LoadCharacter.
- Fixed the hotbar going empty when a game gives players a new loadout mid round.
- Knives no longer make a sound when you draw them, and the swing no longer booms like a gunshot indoors.
- Version 1.2.2 is no longer offered for download. Games already running it keep working; update to 1.3 to use the dashboard.
v1.2.2
- Bodycam style gun movement feels far more natural. Small turns used to move the gun one to one with the mouse and then stop dead at the edge. Now the gun swings on a weighted spring, the body picks up the turn gradually as the gun nears the edge, and when you hold still the body slowly squares up behind the gun.
- FreeAim.Return now does something: it sets how fast the body squares up behind the gun (0.4 by default, 0 turns it off).
- When XSF hits a problem in Studio, Output now explains it in plain words and says how to fix it for known causes: wrong weapon names, missing gun models, typos in GameConfig or a gun Config (with the line number), HTTP or API access switched off, misspelled keybinds, missing Handle parts or animations, and moved XSF folders. Every message links the XSF Discord for help. Players never see any of it.
- Support has moved to the XSF Discord: https://discord.gg/W8mWeGqMeJ. The license screen and README point there now.
- The docs are much more detailed: a full list of every GameConfig option with its default, every key name, a gun movement guide, what each attachment and ammo type does in numbers, a step by step damage explanation with worked examples, a full server and client scripting reference with examples, NPC attributes, and every error message with its fix.
v1.2.1
- New loadout screen (N, Y on controller, KIT on mobile): fit sights, muzzle devices, grips, lights and ammo to each gun, with a turning preview and bars showing exactly what every change does to recoil, aim time, damage, bullet speed and penetration.
- Three loadout presets per gun. Choices and presets are saved with player settings, so they follow players between servers and games. The server checks every change, and game owners control it with Customization in GameConfig.
- Ammo types: Hollow Point (more damage, weak against armour and walls), Armor Piercing (ignores most armour, goes through walls further) and Subsonic (quieter, shorter range, softer recoil).
- New hand animations for magazine guns: draw, reload, reload with rounds left (the old magazine goes back in the pouch), clearing a jam and inspect, fitted to each gun so the hand really grabs the magazine and works the charging handle or slide. Set Animations = "Imported" to keep a gun's own clips.
- Recoil follows a learnable pattern per gun, so players can learn to pull against it. Guns can set their own with Recoil.Pattern.
- Optional jams (Malfunctions in GameConfig, off by default). A jammed gun won't fire until the player reloads to clear it.
- Gunfire through walls is muffled more for every wall between the shot and the listener.
- Other players flinch when they are hit and stagger from heavy hits, which knocks their aim off for a moment.
- Impacts match the surface: splinters from wood, sparks and bright dents on metal, shards from glass, dust from concrete and dirt from the ground, with cratered bullet holes.
- New Low effects setting for weaker devices: fewer particles, no brass or muzzle smoke, fewer bullet holes. Performance.LowEffects sets the default.
- The docs have new sections for the loadout screen, ammo types, and jams, animations and effects.
v1.1.3
- Reloads look real: the support hand grabs the magazine, pulls it, reaches to the pouch empty handed, comes back with a fresh one and seats it, with the fingers closed around the magazine the whole time it is held.
- Bodycam style aiming is on by default: small mouse movements swing the gun first and the body follows once it reaches the edge, while fast turns carry the body with the gun. Game owners control it with FreeAim in GameConfig.
- The pistol sits to the right of centre with both elbows tucked, and the support hand cups the shooting hand.
- Flashbangs work like the real thing: the flash blinds based on where you were looking and leaves a fading afterimage, and the bang deafens and leaves ringing even through walls.
- Fixed guns refusing to fire after an auto reload on pump and bolt action weapons until they were swapped out.
- The suppressed MP5 no longer sounds muffled: suppressors now take the boom out and keep the crack.
- Shooting from a corner or under an overhang no longer sounds like the shot went everywhere except to you.
- The dark box that appeared when taking damage is gone; tunnel vision now darkens the edges of the whole screen.
- New sounds and effects: brass tinkling as it lands, dropped magazines thudding, muzzle smoke that builds with sustained fire, cloth rustle when aiming, trigger clicks, a hollow ping when the magazine is nearly empty, and a landing thud.
- XSF now checks for updates when a server starts and prints a line in Output if a newer version is out. In Studio it also shows a small closable note. Players never see it.
- GameConfig now lists every option with its default value and a plain comment explaining it.
- The docs have been rewritten to be clearer, with a Common changes table and correct install steps.
- Removed the hit marker option from the player settings menu. Game owners can still turn hit markers on for everyone with Damage.Hitmarkers in GameConfig.
v1.1.2
- Sliding works on controller: a clicked-in sprint no longer cancels itself the moment you start moving, and the slide no longer needs the stick pushed all the way.
- Fixed a second red dot sometimes showing in sights. It was the reticle on your character's own world gun.
- Fixed players slowly drifting forward while prone.
- Removed the XSF watermark. Nothing is drawn on your players' screens any more, and the Watermark option is gone from GameConfig.
v1.1.1
- Fixed a stray copy of the gun appearing in the world when switching weapons. It was your character's own third person gun showing before it was placed.
- Pistols, SMGs and other guns whose poses held the weapon at full stretch now sit closer to the body at the hip, so the arms no longer look overly long. Aiming down sights is unchanged.
- Controller: the view no longer drifts after you let go of the right stick, and moving no longer turns the camera on touch or controller.
- Controller: R1 and L1 now switch to the next and previous weapon by default. Lean has no controller button by default.
- Rebinding a trigger or button on a controller no longer loops back into waiting for a key.
- Every action in the controls menu has an X to clear its binds, and aim, sprint and lean can each be set to hold or toggle.
- Controller and touch: tap crouch to crouch, hold it to go prone. This can be switched off in the controls menu.
- Sliding now works on controller and touch.
- Guns reload on their own when the magazine runs dry. Game owners can turn this off with Controls.AutoReload in GameConfig.
- Mobile: the weapon bar stays on screen and slots can be tapped to switch. A new MOBILE settings tab lets players hide any on-screen button.
- Fixed players sometimes being impossible to hit because their hitboxes were read before their character finished loading.
- The red damage effect now covers the whole screen instead of showing as a dark box.
- Nothing is shown while a server checks its license. A message only appears if something is actually wrong, with a pointer to @b0x6 on Discord for help.
v1.1.0
- New first person arms: black tactical gloves and sleeves on a fully skinned hand. The fingers close around each gun until they touch it, so the hands actually hold the grip, the foregrip and the trigger.
- Fixed ghost copies of the gun showing up for a frame or two when you pull a weapon out.
- Your settings and keybinds now follow you into every game running XSF. If the game has HTTP requests off, they save to that game instead, same as before.
- Mouse buttons can be bound to any action. Binding a key on keyboard no longer replaces your controller binds, and the other way round.
- Old saves that lost their controller binds get the defaults back automatically.
- Servers no longer fail to start XSF when the license site is slow to answer. The check retries, and a game that passed recently keeps running while the site is down.
- Fixed players sometimes spawning with no weapons when the license check finished after they joined.
v1.0.0
- First public release.
